A Brief History of the
Freedom21 Federal Credit
Union
The sponsoring organization of the Freedom21 Federal Credit Union, the Environmental Conservation Organization, Inc. (ECO), has continually strived, for more than 15 years, to provide the best avenue for its members to achieve their goals of preserving their individual rights and freedoms, as well as the protection of our great Republic and its' Constitution.
In January of 2005, the ECO Board of Directors created an Organizing Committee to begin the application process of creating the Freedom21 FCU, which would benefit the members of ECO.
In May, after lengthy and scrutinizing preparation, ECO introduced the idea of forming a credit union to their members in its online and print publications. The response was overwhelming. The prospect of a financial institution being created for those who are dedicated to advancing the principles of freedom quickly gained support.
On November 10, 2005, Freedom21 FCU's Organizing Committee submitted an application for Charter to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). From December 2005 until August of 2006, the NCUA requested clarifications and additions to the Charter application, Bylaws, and Policy Manual.
After nearly two years of hard work and dedication, the Freedom21
Federal Credit Union became a reality. On September 5, 2006, the NCUA
issued their approval of the Credit Union's Charter.
